one month ago one month ago, i got on 3 northwest planes - 1 at changi, 1 at narita and 1 at detroit. along with joy and eunice (mom), we stepped foot onto north-east american soil and had a blast. so i'm trying to cramp a whole month of walking, photo whoring, shopping, museum visiting, picnicing, etc in this post. so bear with me and here we go. New York we spent about 3 days there and stayed in a hostel opposite central park so that was cool. the room was TINY. all that was in it was 2 bunk beds to fit 4 persons and by the time 4 people fitted all their luggage in the room, there was barely enough room to walk anywhere in the room. anyway, new york was nice. it was sunny and cool. (trust me, unlike singapore where sunny and cool can never mix, it was ACTUALLY sunny and cool) we walked to the natural history musuem. we must have walked for at least 20-30 minutes and guess what?! i was not STICKY! :D anyway the musuem was pretty cool. after the whole museum stuff we took the metro downtown to times square and I LOVED IT! the signs, the lights, everything. so being the kid i am, i had to go see toys 'r' us. it was freaking HUGE. and there were candies, LOTS of candies. they had so many different coloured m&m's. yes! they had silver, gold, dark green, dark pink, teal, etc. oh man it was a BEAUTIFUL sight! :) :) :) basically the next few days were spent walking around columbia, seing ground zero, walking through wall street (i saw the trump tower!), 5th ave, grand central, visiting the new york public library which looked more like a museum. Montreal so we took the train up to montreal and it took 11 HOURS. but i swear the train was so much better than the stupid plane. sharon came the following day and wehad poutine. beautiful poutine! :) oh did i fail to mention that this whole trip has been focused so much on food? but with all the walking, i hope i lost the weight i put on from the food. we had smoked meat, fresh fruits and cheese from the farmers' market. so the cool thing about montreal was the lovely hostel and the quietness and peacefulness. oh and SHARON. i'm so glad you came. i miss you :( Albany albany was a stopover on our way to boston. so albany was . yeah that was it. nothing. it was boring in albany. Boston boston rained. it freaking POURED. it was freezing and it was raining and there was wind. the rain didn't go away, the bloody old man did not stop snoring. so there we are. 4 of us, under the pouring rain, walking with our this old lady (our tour guide for the freedom trail) around boston. i swear i hated every minute of it. i loved the old church we went in to though. it had good heating. damn good i tell you. oh did i tell you how cold it was? it was so cold we were smoking! you know how it's cold and when you speak, you see smoke. yeah, smoking. but other than the rain, boston was pretty cool. they had so much seafood it was so cool. we had HOT clam chowder in the freezing cold so that was good. for a brief period i'm sure a grew a little smarter just by walking the grounds of harvard and MIT :D the schools were beautiful. you won't believe it was a school. we got to filene's basement and it was so good! :D it's known for selling branded stuff at really cheap prices. now when i say cheap, only some stuff were cheap. but the prices were cut down alot from their actual prices. you could get micheal kors, ralph lauren, etc for less than 1/2 the original price. Washington DC dc was nice weather. it was much warmer so it was good weather to walk. when i say walk, we walked EVERYWHERE. we did not even take the subway ONCE the whole time we were there. i must have lost weight there. dc time was basically filled out with museums and memorials - lincoln memorial, vietnam war memorial, reflection pool, world war II memorial, white house, natural history musuem, national art gallery, holocust musuem, musuem of the american indians, national air and space museum. yup. a whole lot of museums huh. the holocust museum was the best i felt. it was really sad. they had videos, and the had recordings of the survivors of the holocust and it was a pretty scary thing. Pennsylvania PA was pretty cool. we drove through philly and got to watch a baseball game. (go phillies! :D) i now understand why americans love the game. we visited joy's many friends as well which was pretty cool. the hospitality was so great. we did shopping - american eagle, victoria secrets, wet seal, H&M, forever 21, GAP, aeropostale, J C Penny, okay i can't list them all. there were 400 shops in the mall. YES. FOUR HUNDERED stores! (visit http://www.kingofprussiamall.com/) LOTS of shopping. we visited the amish county which was cool. we passed these little kids on their buggies and exchanged waves. we saw cows, fields, horses, donkeys, fields, sheep and more fields! but it was cool. we got to one of the farms and got ice cream! :D fresh ice cream. oh how i LOVED it! :D New York and we were back in new york. this time we got to picnic in central park. we saw ducks, dogs, pigeons, pigeons and more pigeons! we went down to madison square garden. walked around, did more shopping! (new york does not charge taxes on clothes :D) oh if you've watched serendipity before, i can proudly say i was at the restaurant where they met! :D they have this famous frozen hot chocolate which i know makes absolutely no sense but it was good! :) and it cost US$8 but it was HUGE! (visit http://www.serendipity3.com) we got to walk around soho as well, walked around dean & deluca. we managed to go to this candy shop and apparently it belongs to ralph lauren's daughter. (visit www.dylanscandybar.com) we went to the american chocolate shop and they sold all of hershey's stuff. we visited the m&m's store as well. oh man, i swear they LOVE their candy. they have everything, sleepwear decorated with m&m's, earings, necklaces, HUGE bars of hersheys and HUGE containers of m&m's. i cannot express how many things they could come up from just a simple chocolate! so the street naming in new york is so much better than what we have here. say you are at 103rd street and you want to go to 42nd street. just by looking at the street number you'll know you have to take the downtown train to 42nd train. downtown - street numbers decrease, uptown - street numbers increase. SIMPLE. okay, but since new york is huge, they have so many different trains it get a little confusing at times. but once you get the hang of it it's pretty ok. yup, so my adventure and i loved it :D once month away from studying and my time-table's out. SERIOUSLY! oh my gooodnesss. i'm so freaking out! aaaarrrrrrhhhhhhh. |
